The Future Is 2050. Have We Asked Our Kids What They Think?

When we picture the year 2050, what do we see?

Cleaner cities? Greener energy? Fairer systems? Stronger communities? Now here’s a more important question: Have we asked the generation who will actually be living in that future what they see?

Children and young people have bold, creative, and deeply thoughtful ideas about the world. They care about climate change. They care about fairness. They care about mental health, equality, technology, and opportunity. And often, they see solutions adults overlook.

Yet too often, they aren’t invited into the conversation. We host conferences. We write policies. We hold strategy meetings. But the voices of those who will inherit the results? Missing.

That’s why Our World 2050 is doing something powerful. It’s giving young people ages 6–21 the chance to share their vision for the future through a short, engaging survey. No complicated language. No political gatekeeping. Just a real opportunity to speak up.

What kind of planet do they want in 2050?What should schools look like? How should communities treat one another? What problems do they want solved and how?

When we ask young people these questions, something amazing happens. They don’t just respond with idealism. They respond with clarity. With courage. With creativity. They imagine sustainable cities, inclusive societies, cleaner oceans, safer neighborhoods, and technology that connects rather than divides. And maybe most importantly they want to be part of building it. This isn’t just a survey. It’s a signal. A signal that their ideas matter. A signal that their future isn’t being decided without them. A signal that leadership starts at any age.

If you’re a parent, educator, youth leader, mentor, or simply someone who believes in a better tomorrow, you can help make that signal louder.

Encourage a child or young person in your life to take a few minutes and share their vision.

Because the future should never be something we design in isolation.

It should be something we build together.

Let’s listen to the next generation. They’re ready.
