Can I change my avatar?
Yes! Anytime you want to select a new Eco-Hero Avatar, you can log into your Dashboard and make the change.
Can I upload my own avatar?
Not yet. We’ve got a wide variety of eco-hero avatars to choose from, so we hope you’ll find a bunch you like. However, If you don’t, please email us with some suggestions and we’ll work on making it happen.
How many Missions can I do?
There is no limit to the number of Missions you can launch or money you can raise, but we advise you not to overwhelm the people you know by asking them for donations too often. Once you’ve created your first Mission, you may want to consider launching the next one in honor of a special holiday like Christmas, your birthday, or Earth Day on April 22nd each year. You could also consider launching a Mission with a small fundraising goal like $5-$20 as a rainy day activity. Maybe you can get a parent to sponsor your efforts!
What else can I do on the We Save the Platform besides Launch a Mission?
We want to inspire your creativity and activism in multiple ways. We have events you can join in, a dance challenge, and a number of ideas for project based learning activities you can do at school. We invite you to sign-up for notifications, so you don’t miss out.
How will I know if I earn the “First in My City” Badge?
We will be continually reviewing new accounts to discover who registers first in their city and award them a “First in My City” badge.
Do I have to change the facts you provided in the Mission?
We supplied you with some interesting facts about an animal or eco-system in each Mission. We encourage you to read it carefully to learn more about the topic. We hope you’ll seek out additional facts to add to the story and write it in the blank space in your own words. You could also get creative, if you like, and rewrite the story from the perspective of an animal! Or an explorer! Or a scientist! It’s up to you and your imagination.
How do I share my story?
Once you have completed editing the 3 parts of the story and your personal message, click “Publish Mission.” Your story is now available to read on the internet! We provide you with a unique link to the story which you can send by text or email to anyone you choose. If it’s alright with your parents, your link can also be published on social media pages where it might attract more attention and donations.
How long should I wait to see if anyone will donate to my Mission?
Some people in your Donor Circle will respond right away, but others will take longer. We recommend you encourage donors to respond within 2 weeks. You can extend your Mission as long as you want and see the results of who has responded and how much money they donated by logging into your Eco-Hero Dashboard.
Will I receive a receipt showing my donation? Is it tax deductible?
Yes. All donors will receive a receipt showing the amount(s) they have donated to We Save the World. We Save the World is a 501(c)3 tax exempt public charity and donations are deductible to the full extent of the law.
What happens to the money I donate to a Mission on We Save the World’s fundraising platform?
Your donation supports two wonderful causes! When We Save the World receives funds from an eco-hero’s Mission, we donate 85% to the excellent non-profit your eco-hero chose when they selected a Mission to complete! We donate these funds on a monthly basis. For example, we collect all the funds raised by eco-heroes for Red Panda Missions on our platform each month, and send 85% of the total to the Red Panda Network by the 10th of the next month. We use 15% of the donations to cover payment processing fees and our own expenses to improve our story-sharing platform and educate and inspire more young eco-heroes to action.
I love We Save the World’s mission to inspire eco-heroism in young people! Can I make a donation to help your organization expand its reach?
Absolutely! We love that question! You can use the “Donate” button on our website for that purpose or send a check to our mailing address, We Save the World, P.O. Box 2531, Santa Rosa, CA 95405. We Save the World will gratefully use your support to expand our reach, and to keep improving our program to make it more awesome every month! Our first big goal is to inspire 100,000 American children ages 8-18 to launch a Mission in our first year. It’s an ambitious goal, but we’re dedicated to saving the world, so we have to think BIG! If we succeed, we think we’ll be able to raise over $2.5 million in one year for environmental charities who are saving Nature!
How does We Save the World choose which environmental charities to support?
We Save the World reviews the accomplishments and reputations of the environmental non-profits we support through our Missions. We read about the programs in materials the non-profits provide, we talk with their representatives on the phone, and we also check their ratings on national charity registries like Candid and Charity Navigator, where you can access their financial reports. We especially like to champion charities which do a mixture of research, environmental protection, education, and provide employment for local people protecting wildlife.
How do I know I can trust We Save the World with my donations?
We Save the World was founded by moms who want the world to be safe for their children and everyone else’s. We went through a long process to prove to the Internal Revenue Service that our activities are legitimate in order to receive our 501(c)3 public charity status. We are 100% committed to inspiring young people and helping them make a meaningful difference in protecting Earth’s ecosystems and their futures. We are using the smallest amount of the Mission donations we can imagine to cover our expenses, and donating as much as possible to the environmental non-profits protecting animals and ecosystems.
