In a recent conversation with We Save The World, Polar Horizon Co-founder and President Sara Catella shared the vision behind the organization's growing educational work and why she believes learning is one of the most powerful tools for protecting our planet.

At the heart of Polar Horizon's work is its Learning Hub, a free educational resource designed for teachers, students, and anyone curious about the polar regions. The goal is simple: make polar science easy to understand, engaging to explore, and inspiring enough to encourage action. Their broader work also includes youth leadership, public engagement, scientific collaboration, and Polar Lens, a project recognized as a United Nations Ocean Decade Activity that helps people better understand the connection between the poles, the ocean, and our changing climate.

For Sara, the mission goes far beyond science:

"The polar regions play a fundamental role in regulating Earth's climate system, yet they remain among the least understood places on our planet. By helping people understand their importance, we can inspire greater appreciation for these remarkable places and encourage collective action to safeguard them for future generations."

Her passion for the polar world began long before Polar Horizon was founded.

"I have loved the polar regions since I was a child," she told us. "Having the opportunity to spend months immersed in these extraordinary environments has been one of the greatest privileges of my life." She describes the Arctic and Antarctica as places that change the way you see the world. "Their immense landscapes and breathtaking beauty remind you how small you are in comparison to the vastness of nature. They inspire humility, foster a deep connection with the natural world, and leave a lasting impression on everyone who experiences them." That sense of wonder is exactly what Polar Horizon hopes to pass on to the next generation.
