Young Eco-Heroes Are Proving That Change Starts with Action

What happens when young people stop waiting for change and start creating it?

That question was at the heart of the 2026 Eco-Hero Conference, hosted by Action for Nature on August 29. The virtual event brought together this year’s young Eco-Hero winners 16 inspiring environmental leaders, ages 10 to 16, selected from 476 applicants across 50 countries. Their projects show that environmental action can take many forms. Some are protecting wildlife and ecosystems, while others are tackling plastic pollution, conserving water, improving air quality, developing sustainable technology, and creating new ways for communities to respond to climate challenges.

From Harley Fatahillah Yodhaloka Sunoto, who has planted tens of thousands of mangroves, to Nithya Tammana, whose water-conservation movement has inspired hundreds of young “Water Warriors,” these Eco-Heroes are turning ideas into action. The conference was more than a celebration of awards. It was a reminder that young people do not have to wait until they are adults to make a difference. They can identify problems, create solutions, bring others together, and become leaders in protecting the planet.

A Chance to Keep the Impact Growing, Action for Nature is also inviting people to take part in its 1:1 Eco-Hero Mentorship Program, where mentors can guide young changemakers as they develop their award-winning projects or begin new environmental initiatives.

Eco-Hero winners are also eligible to join the program as mentees, giving them access to tailored guidance as they continue their work.
