How I Became an Eco-Hero: My Journey with We Save the World Expands

As a concerned parent and teacher, I often think about the future of our planet and what it means for children. Environmental issues can feel overwhelming, but when I dedicated myself to making a difference through fundraising, education, and creativity, I was essentially choosing to become an "eco-hero" myself. I love how good I feel on this path!

Discovering My Purpose

My passion for making a difference has been tested frequently over the last three years of learning and effort, but my dedication is paying off. What excites me most is the blend of fun and learning. This is not just about spreading awareness; it is about teaching kids that taking responsibility and action can be creative and empowering. Giving them the chance to contribute to something meaningful is exactly what young people need.

Currently, I am creating a film called "It Only Takes a Moment" with Windsor High School students and our local waste management company, Recology Sonoma Marin, to help students divert more waste from landfills. Last month I was choreographing a hip hop eco-hero dance with elementary students from Kid Street Charter School and beyond. A few months before, I was using AI technology to create catchy and inspiring eco-hero songs which I am sharing on our redesigned We Save the World website. All of these projects are fun, interesting, and exciting for the youths who participate and for me!!

Creating a Legion of Eco-Heroes

Positive energy is contagious. Both children and parents have been excited about We Save the World's strategy of sharing knowledge and feelings as a way to attract more people to our cause. This Spring, we came up with an acting for the camera workshop to help children practice valuable communication skills, while they provided a testimonial about their experience on the WSTW Eco-Hero Launchpad. I am thrilled with the heart-felt statements we gathered on video from nine students, and I am sure that the videos will contribute to the snowball effect of growing our movement.

With the Educator version of our website becoming available to beta test last month, I'm hopeful our Eco-Hero Launchpad will be serving hundreds, if not thousands, of new eco-heroes as schools start their 2025-2026 academic year. In the video below from Earth Day, you can get a window into We Save the World's fun and creative approach to inspiring people to action.

The Superpower of Fundraising

A key focus of "We Save the World" is inspiring youths to raise funds to support vital environmental projects. I think young people are uniquely positioned to flourish in this endeavor because the adults who love them are cheering them on to succeed in their development and their goals. I am certain that our legion of fundraising Eco-Heroes will make a massive positive impact as we are able to expand our outreach to schools. Our ambitious goal is to raise $50 million by the end of 2030. I know this goal is attainable if I can find the partners I need to expand my efforts nationally fast enough.

Taking Action Together

My experiences leading We Save the World have reshaped my life. As I attempt to inspire youths, I can't help but lead by example. For me, becoming an eco-hero means fostering a spirit of community, engaging with environmental educators and initiatives, and investing my money to create infrastructure and spread awareness about We Save the World's Eco-Hero Launchpad, films, music, and dance initiatives. Sometimes our rate of progress discourages me, but the current threats to global eco-systems and a sustainable future for children convince me that now is a time to be bold and determined. I feel certain I will find other passionate people who see themselves as part of the "We" and I'll get the allies I need for this beautiful vision to become reality.

Will you join me? Let’s keep expanding our efforts and nurturing the next wave of eco-heroes. The planet needs us now more than ever, and the beautiful part is that even small actions make a difference. Whether we participate in local initiatives, make greener choices in our daily lives, or donate money to environmental nonprofits, it all leads to tangible change. Please join me on this journey and discover how your unique gifts will help save our world!
